Justin Black

Justin Black is a Texas-rooted rock singer, songwriter, and guitarist whose career has run through Justin Black & The Light, Justin Black & Big Heart, and solo work under his own name. Coming out of the SoCal/Seattle scene and later planted in Austin, he built a “modern classic” sound — classic-rock muscle with folk and alternative edges — drawing on the lineage of Zeppelin, the Black Crowes, Temple of the Dog, Jeff Buckley, and Tom Petty.

His early band era produced New Revolution (2006) with Justin Black & The Light; the Austin chapter followed with Justin Black & Big Heart’s Devil Tree (2010), plus SXSW and Texas Rockfest stages, including live staples like “Good Times” and “Asleep at the Wheel.” Public band notes also cite festival work and bills with major rock acts. That arc is framed by a hard personal reset: after throat cancer and lung surgery, and being told he might never sing again, he kept writing and performing anyway.

Recent solo releases, including Under Texas Skies (2026), carry that same heartland-rock thread forward — songs about place, grit, and hope, still aimed at mind, heart, and soul.
